It introduces a BBC2 season of five of the masterpieces he made with the poet and scriptwriter Jacques Prevert during a decade of collaboration, running from 1936. They gave us such films as Quai des brumes, Le jour se lève, and - best loved of all -Les enfants du paradis. Voted the best French film of all time in 1979, this remarkable film still plays to packed houses.
