It was a hectic morning, workers queued up to empty their baskets of slat into the sacks. Sitting on the far end was Lady LAN, daughter of the chief. With a brush in her hand and a drawing board an her lap, she was feverishly painting the scene of these people at work. Then the old man was home. He was badly wounded, his body placed face-down over the horseback. It was later learnt that killers, hired by the head of another salt gang, DING, ambushed him on his way back. The family rushed him to hospital while CHAN took care of the lady. CHAN had no intention to keep LAN in the dark. He warned of the old man's critical situation and urged her to be prepared to succeed as chief. LAN felt a bit helpless with all the sudden oncoming realities, she hesitated because her dream was to go study abroad. CHAN pledged his loyalty and guaranteed to help her in every possible way.… ...
